Holidays and piano: Japan's practical solution for musicians

My E-piano |
I love not only listening to music but also playing it myself. I could listen to tunes 24/7 and never get tired of it. On top of that, my ancestors on my grandma’s side were all musicians—music runs in my blood, so it’s no surprise I was drawn to learn an instrument. When I was 12, we got a piano, and I took some lessons. My sister wanted to learn too, and whenever I tried to practice, she’d rush to the piano, leaving me no chance to improve. I gave up shortly after 😖.
A few years later I got interest again, downloaded an app to learn but gave up again. 2023 came and once again I was determined to learn the piano, and this time I was serious. Started with *coughs* simply piano to test if I enjoy playing and yes I did. Didn't learn much with the app. After 1 year I took lessons with a teacher, didn't learn much either. Playing sounded smoother, though.
I've joined a music discord server and got recommend Bill Hiltons youtube lessons and WOW 😍 I've learned so much already.
Japan holidays and practing piano
What if you’re a musician on a one-month trip to Japan? You can’t exactly take your piano with you. I’m a little jealous of guitar and violin players—they’ve got it so much easier. As a pianist, I thought about getting one of those foldable keyboards to bring along. But is that a good idea? No way 👊—it’s just too different from the real thing.
I really wanted to keep practicing, so I started looking for solutions. Thinking about my special someone gave me an idea: I could rent a practice room. I found a few near my apartment with an upright piano, and that felt like the perfect fix.
Rental Studio Debut Shin Okubo
I've decided to book a room with the rental studio Debut . The site is in japanese and I don't know if you can use it without japanese skills. I chose room B with the upright piano. It was cheap. 600 yen for 30 minutes.
The location was a bit hard to find. First I had to go to the school Dacapo to the reception. Told them I reserved a room to practice and I had to fill out a paper with my information.
They gave me a card key and a map where the studio was.
The piano in room B |
I went there once a week, and it was a bit weird to play on a normal piano, since I'm used to my electric one.
Other options
I went to the Ikebukuro Sunshine city observatory, where a piano was. You can play it for free, for 5 minutes.
I was embarrassed to play because I'm still a beginner 💀 played a few notes and that was it.
