October in Tokyo: Summer heat, fuzzy memories and a concert

It was October, and it was still summer in Tokyo. We still got 30 degrees 💀yikes. 13 years ago it wasn't like that. Curious, I dug into some old weather data and got a surprise.

What?! 27 degrees? I can't remember that

Ok that was a shock. 27 degrees in the beginning of October. Let's compare with 2024.

the same...

Mind blown. Did I really get it so wrong? Funnily enough, my Japanese friends feel the same way. They’re convinced autumn used to be cooler, too. Is this some kind of collective memory glitch? Maybe we’re all just romanticizing the past.

Despite the heat, I decided to head out. Fresh off a foot surgery, I picked a breezy blue summer dress and what I thought were comfy sandals. Big mistake. On my way to Ueno, I scored a blister. Turns out, those sandals weren’t as foot-friendly as I hoped. 😅

Hobbling along with Google Maps on my phone, I made it to the live hall just in time. A few minutes later, my friend’s birthday live kicked off. He’d promised me a chair to rest my foot, but someone else had already claimed it. 💥 No luck there. Spotted some other bandmen who are good friends with the birthday boy at the VIP area. At the back, near the toilets and the bar 💅

The event was short, just an hour and a half, so I didn’t stay long. My foot was throbbing, and that new blister wasn’t helping. Time to limp home and give my poor feet a break.

Later, I exchanged messages with the birthday boy. He seemed upset, maybe even a bit angry? He thought I hadn’t shown up because he didn’t spot me in the crowd. I’m always in the VIP area at the back, so no surprise there. To set things right, I reassured him I was absolutely there and sent a few photos from the concert as proof. Crisis averted, I hope!

Is it just in Japan? The live halls I've gone to were always a bit run down 👀
